Takiji Kobayashi, October 13, 1903 – February 20, 1933) was a Japanese author of proletarian literature.

He is best known for his short novel Kanikōsen, or Crab Cannery Ship, published in 1929. It tells the story of the hard life of cannery workers, fishermen and seamen on board a cannery ship and the beginning of their revolt against the company and its managers.

The young writer died due to violent torture after arrest by the Tokkō police two years later, at the age of 29.

Condition:

Good Condition for this 1st international edition, published the year of Takijis murder (posthumous vendre notes in final chapter of book). Book cover shows stain/soiling plus mild damp-stains. Vintage-type metal corner protectors. Hinges/binding are tight/strong...signs of hinge repair to sides of spine cover. Some color-fading to spine. Damp stains on page edges, but do not extend into book interior. Inside, repaired edge-tears on 3 pages. A few small finger-oil or food stains also found. Otherwise, interior is quite good, and paper is strong/flexible.
