This is one of our shops latest uniqueofferings. Its a gorgeous polishedspecimenfrom the heel of a large nodule of Polish flint. This stone is a lot like the orbicular jaspers we cut and polish into jewelry and display specimens here in the Pacific Northwest in terms of density and luster when polished. Its a heel cut from an extra large boulder that features a reasonably full picture pattern and some of the richest high contrast colors youll ever see in a display piece from this European location! The large nodule was weathering and had developed some fracture lines that we stabilized beforegrinding and polishing the display face to a mirror finish. The broken bottom edge is reasonably flat and allows the nodule to be displayed standing up without a display stand. Weve polished it to a mirror perfect finish to bring the color and pattern to their full glory while the outside husk shows the stone in its innocuous natural form. This is a real show piece suitable for permanent display in even the most advanced collections or selective decor!

One of the things that makes the winter rain so tolerable here in the great Pacific Northwest is the fact that were virtually surrounded by some of the most dramatic, beautiful lapidary materials in the most incredible varieties you can imagine! One of my personal favorites are the scenic picture jaspers, many of which are found right here in Oregon. This stone could easily fit right in, but its not one of these - its actually a flint nodule from Poland. This stone was prized in early (stone age) tool making with many axe heads and knives now in artifact displays showing this fine, banded stone. Its one of the more impressive varieties and is often sought after for jewelry. The exterior is a soft, chalk like material that can be easily scratched away, but transitions within a few millimeters into a hard, jasper like flint that takes an immaculate polish!

This piece is an extra large,gemmyspecimen cut from a large boulder of material that Ive been waiting to cut for several months. Its beenpolished using specially designed flat laps to produce a mirror perfect finish on a world class display specimen.It doesnt show in the photo of course, but the finish looks like the stone is wet! It really brings out the colors and patterns in a way you have to see in person to truly appreciate.
